Description

This half-day culinary adventure includes a one-hour cooking class. You’ll have the opportunity to taste some of the best wontons from street vendors which will be recommended by your knowledgeable local guide. After your walking tour, your tour guide and a local chef will teach you how to prepare your own wontons, a Shanghai classic!

Meet your guide at the lobby of your hotel in Shanghai city center to start this tour. First we will guide you on a walking tour of the former French Concession, a beloved tree-lined neighborhood, to find some of Shanghai's best wontons.

After that, we will stop by the street stalls and casual local eateries to watch experts make the fresh wontons that you get to try. Depending on what’s available, you will be able taste the different samples. Along the way, your guide will explain the differences in taste, texture and cooking techniques of China’s bite-size snacks.

Then you’ll have a 1-hour cooking class. During your cooking lesson, a local chef will introduce you some of the different Chinese buns and wontons, and how to make them. They are a real Shanghai classic. Throughout all the steps included in making these delights, you’ll gain valuable tips from your master instructor and learn about the differences between Chinese and Western-style cooking.

Once the hard work is done, enjoy the buns and wontons you have made.  After you’ve had your fill, your guide will take you to make one final stop. Head out once more on foot and follow your guide to the nearby wet market to see where the locals shop for their groceries. You’ll notice that the markets in Shanghai have a lot of ingredients which aren’t used outside of China, and your guide will help you explain what everything is.

After this last activity, the tour ends and we will bring you back to your hotel.
